Boy, have my carving skills improved! Meet Gaia, my latest guitar creation. It’s made of rare New Zealand pseudonium wood that was air-dried for 10 years by the warm breath of Vestal virgins and can only be carved on a moonlit night. 🤣
Seriously, though, it’s 3D printed, in full colour, out of an acrylate material on a material jetting 3D printing system. The only carving done was digital, and the only trees killed were virtual.
The design was done using a combination of multiple software packages. First, Solidworks for the main body, and then a half of a woman’s head that I found on Thingiverse, created by DTB from cnctar.hobbycnc.hu, which I squashed, and mirrored to form a full low-profile head in Magics, then smoothed it using nTop, digitally carved the extra hair extensions in Meshmixer, deformed the head and hair in Blender to match the curvature of the body front, and finally assembled all the bits and pieces together in Magics.
